Finland's 'everyman's rights' (jokamiehenoikeus) mean you can freely pick wild berries and mushrooms anywhere in nature, including the national park. Lapland's forests are full of blueberries (July–Aug), lingonberries (Aug–Sep), and the prized cloudberry (Aug). The cloudberry grows in bogs and is known as Lapland gold. Mushroom season runs August to September with chanterelles, boletus, and more.

Hunting

Hunting is deeply rooted in Lapland culture. The autumn season (typically September to December, depending on species) covers willow grouse (riekko), hare, waterfowl, and small game. Foreign visitors need a Finnish hunting licence, a game fee, and the right permits for the area. Guided hunting trips are offered locally and are the easiest way to try this tradition.
