Living the Arctic Life

The Fox's Fires

Our Story — The Fox Behind the Name

The name ‘Kettura’ comes from ‘kettu’ — Finnish for fox. In Finnish mythology, the firefox (tulikettu) is a magical fox whose tail creates the northern lights as it runs across the arctic fells. The Finnish word for northern lights — revontulet — literally means ‘fox's fires’.

We chose this name because it captures everything we love about Lapland: its magic, its wildness, and its deep connection to nature and folklore.

Kimberley Fox — Founder of Kettura Finland

Meet Kimberley

Kettura Finland was founded by Kimberley Fox — and yes, that really is her surname. When you're called Fox and you move to the land of the firefox, the name writes itself.

Kimberley lives in Finnish Lapland full-time. This isn't a remote business run from abroad — she's here, on the ground, year-round. She personally manages every cabin, checks every detail before each guest arrives, and is always nearby if you need anything.

Living inside the Arctic Circle means she knows Lapland through all its seasons — from the deep snow and northern lights of winter to the midnight sun and wild blueberry forests of summer. Every recommendation on this site comes from personal experience, not a guidebook.
