Hunting in Lapland
Hunting is deeply rooted in Lapland culture. The autumn season (typically September to December, depending on species) covers willow grouse (riekko), hare, waterfowl, and small game. Foreign visitors need a Finnish hunting licence, a game fee, and the right permits for the area. Guided hunting trips are offered locally and are the easiest way to try this tradition. Note: hunting in the national park has specific rules — check Metsähallitus for details.
